Error 0xC004C008

Description: This error occurs when the activation server detects that a product key has been used on more devices than permitted by the license agreement. This commonly happens with Retail keys that have already been activated on another computer or with OEM keys, which are permanently tied to a single device and cannot be transferred.

Fixes:

  • Check License Type:

    • If your key is an OEM license, it can only be activated on the original device. You will need to purchase a new key for a different device.
    • If your key is a Retail license, it can be transferred, but it must first be deactivated on the old device.
  • Use the Activation Troubleshooter:

    • Navigate to Settings > System > Activation and select "Troubleshoot" to attempt automatic resolution.
  • Activate via Phone (For Retail Licenses Only):

    • Press Win + R, type slui 4, and press Enter.
    • Select your country/region and call the provided Microsoft Activation Center number.
    • Follow the automated instructions and enter the Installation ID to receive a confirmation ID for activation.
  • Contact Microsoft Support:

    • If phone activation fails or your Retail key is not working, visit Microsoft Support to request activation assistance.
  • Purchase a New License (If Required):

    • If your key is an OEM key or has been permanently blocked, you will need to obtain a new valid key.
